Lavant Walks

Lavant forms one of the gateways into the beautiful South Downs National Park and is fortunate to enjoy a number of walking routes that can all be accessed directly from the village itself. If you would like to try one of these walks, the routes are all downloadable from this page.

Walk 1 - East Lavant - 2.5km - Easy
This circular route takes in a number of historic buildings in East Lavant, crosses ancient farmland to Summersdale and returns to Lavant via some hidden pathways.

Walk 2 - West Lavant - 2km - Easy
This circular route follows the pre- and post-industrial history of Mid and West Lavant, passing through the Lavant House estate. There is an option to extend this walk to take in the "Amphitheatre" and enjoy its stunning wild flower meadow.

Walk 3 - The Trundle - 7km - Challenging
This route offers diverse scenery and habitats, rising from the river valley to the Trundle, with magnificent views across the West Sussex countryside. The descent via Chalkpit Lane is rich with points of historical interest.

Walk 4 - Lavant Valley - 8.5km - Easy
This circular route follows the Centurion Way to West Dean and returns via the gentle lowland slopes of the hillside to the east of the fertile river valley. Grazing sheep are a feature of these hillsides. The walk as far as West Dean is suitable for wheelchair users and buggies.

Walk 5 - Oldwick - 6km - Moderate
Running parallel to the Iron Age "Devil's Ditch", this route passes through a woodland track before opening out to the lush fields of Oldwick farm. The route is flat, but can be a little rough in places and is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.

Walk 6 - "Toddlers" - 1.5km - Easy
A pleasant stroll through the village, acknowledging some points of interest that can often be missed as we rush about our daily lives.
